The greatest of gifts we can give to a child is to provide them with a strong religious foundation.
While none of us are perfect parents, we can be good examples by teaching our children about the Christian faith. We don't have to be experts, we just have to lay down a solid foundation of Christian morals and values.
Opening up the lines of communication about such matters with your toddler will carry through to having deep conversations with your children as adults.
God has chosen to reveal Himself through the Bible. Questions about mankind, our world, and spiritual matters cannot be understood or answered apart from the Word of God.

The Bible Society launched the "Pass It On" campaign to encourage parents to read Bible stories with their chidren. They strongly believed that every child should have the opportunity to experience the Bible and were concerned that too few today actually get this chance. In 2014, they did a survey about Bible literacy in the UK and produced a report to examine the reading habits and preferences of parents and children. The survey was conducted among British parents of children aged 3 to 16, and of 804 children aged 8 to 15 in January of 2014.
- A quarter of children asked, (23%) indicated that they have never read, seen or heard the story of Noah's Ark. Twenty-five percent had never read, seen or heard of The Nativity, and 54% for Joseph and his coat of many colours.
- Thirty-eight percent of children indicated that they have never seen, read or heard Adam & Eve; 43% for the Crucifixion. More than half of children have not engaged in any of these ways with Moses parting the Red Sea (56%), or David & Goliath (57%).
- The statistics get even worse. Over 60% of children indicated they had not read, seen or heard of the Feeding of the 5,000 (61%), the Good Samaritan (61%) and the Creation story (63%). For Daniel in the lion's den it is around three quarters (72%) and for the story of Solomon a massive 85%.
- Thirty-four percent of 15-year-olds indicated that they have NOT read, seen or heard The Nativity story.
The findings give plenty of food for thought.
