"Council for the City of Toronto has included the property including the lands, buildings and structures thereon known municipally as 817 Mount Pleasant Road... on the City of Toronto's Heritage Register as a property of cultural heritage value or interest."

Toronto City Clerk

On September 28th, 2020, an Application by a member of the congregation was submitted to the City of Toronto to have St. Peter's Church designated as a heritage property.

Inclusion on the Register involved a three-step process:

  • Step one was the Toronto Preservation Board assessing the building. On April 24th, 2023, it recommended to the North York Community Council that the City Council include the property located at 817 Mount Pleasant Road on the City of Toronto’s Heritage Register based on a presentation by a Senior Manager, Heritage Planning, Urban Design, City Planning.

  • The North York Community Council considered the recommendation, and on May 16th, 2023, adopted it without amendment.  From there it moved to the City of Toronto.

  • On June 14th, the City of Toronto adopted this recommendation without amendments and without debate.

The church has received a Notice from the City of Toronto, dated June 20th, 2023, a part of which states:

"TAKE NOTICE that Council for the City of Toronto has included the property including the lands, buildings and structures thereon known municipally as 817 Mount Pleasant Road under Part IV, Section 27 of the Ontario Heritage Act, R.S.O. 1990, c.O.18, as amended, on the City of Toronto's Heritage Register as a property of cultural heritage value or interest."
