Pidulik kontsert-aktus - Eesti Vabariigi 106. aastapäev

106th Anniversary of Independence of Estonia


Hosted by the Toronto Estonian Society (Toronto Eesti Selts), a celebration of the 106th anniversary of the independence of the Republic of Estonia was held in the sanctuary and halls of St. Peters.  The event began with the entrance of flags by the Toronto Estonian guides Tuuli Leivat ja Eila Uukkivi toegether with guide leader Ingrid Kütt.  Kati Kiilaspea served as the announcer for the event.

  

Following the singing of O Canada, Pastor Ando Kass said the opening prayer.  Greetings came from Kairi Taul Hemingway, President of the Estonian Central Council in Canada, who also gave an introduction to the Hon. Robert Oliphant, MP, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Foreign Affairs.  Honouring our veterans and commemorating the fallen, Markus Alliksaar, Frat! Vironia represented the League of Estonian Fraternities. The Toronto Estonian Male Choir, directed by Avo Kittask, accompanied by Elli Kipper on piano, sang "To the Fallen Heroes".  Erik Purje had heartfelt words speaking on behalf of the Veterans.  The key-note address was from Margus Rava, Estonian Ambassador to Canada.​


A combined choir of the Estonia Choir, T.E.A.S. Ööbik Choir, and the Toronto Estonian Male Choir sang "Always" conducted by Rosemarie Lindau; "What Reins are Holding Us", conducted by Ingrid Silm; and "He Flies Towards the Beehive", conducted by Avo Kittask.​

 

Also in attendance were Fritz Traugott Kristbergs, President Latvian National Federation in Canada; Andris Kesteris, representing the Baltic Council; and Kazimieras Deksnys, President Lithuanian Canadian Community.

 







​The closing remarks were by Anne Liis Keelmann, Chair of the Toronto Estonian Society.  A lovely luncheon was held following the event.
